Do you remember your first time on a surfboard?
7 years old, my Dad pushed me onto waves at Greenmount Point which made it so much easier.
When did you realise that you wanted to take your sport professionally?
I've always loved surfing so I've always wanted to improve my skills and from there it just worked out.
What does a typical day in the life of Dru involve?
It always revolves around the waves. Trying to get footage or photos. Otherwise we are always keeping busy in other areas of our lives bettering our skills outside of our surfing.
Where is your favourite place to go surfing?
There are a lot of places we haven't been yet that might become our favourite place once we get there, but for now, keramas was super nice in Bali, or Straddie at home is probably a favourite along with the Superbank.
What is your proudest moment?
I won the Quiksilver Airshow in 2000, beating all my favourite surfers at the time when I was a complete nobody, which launched my career as a surfer. Also coming 2nd to Taj Burrow in the Boost Surfshow in 07 and 3rd in the Boost Surfshow in 08 taking down many of the best surfers in the world.
What inspires you?
New maneuvers! There are new tricks that are yet to be done. I am landing new airs all the time that I never thought I ever could and the thrill of doing something like that is the best. Also working on my style and turns to have a good well rounded game.
What is your favourite Maxum watch?
Hands down the Waverider Pro-Tide is best.
